General Hospital characters Emma and Gio made love for the first time. Now, their portrayers, Braedyn Bruner and Giovanni Mazza, are speaking about the big step that their characters have taken.
General Hospital, Love in the Afternoon
Veteran ABC soap fans recall the network’s slogan “Love in the Afternoon,” a promo campaign that became synonymous with the alphabet network’s dominance in soap operas. The show harkened back to that Golden Age with today’s episode in which Gio and Emma made love for the first time.
The two actors chatted with Swooon about the episode and its significance.
Braedyn feels that the relationship progressed naturally, leading up to their making love. They started as friends and are now in a romantic relationship.
“I wouldn’t change anything about it because I think it really resonates with the audience that we’re not rushing anything,” the actress offers. She praises the show’s head writers and writing team for telling Gio and Emma’s love story the way that they have.
“I love the conversations that we have the morning after,” she previews. “I think those are some of my favorite scenes that we’ve done so far.”
Safe at home
The actress also compliments the show’s production for creating such a safe environment so that she and Mazza could execute the scenes. “Everyone cultivated a very nice environment and silence on set,” the actress says. “Everyone was very conscious of the fact that this was very intimate for us, and they were very respectful. It allowed us to be comfortable with each other, and be comfortable with everybody around us,” she says.
Bruner says that she and Mazza are comfortable with each other off-screen, too.
“We feel very safe with one another,” she reveals.
“From the start, I could tell she’s just so trustworthy and welcoming and nice, and she is so much fun to watch on screen and to hang out with,” adds Mazza. “We just laugh all the time.”
With Emma’s grandmother, Anna (Finola Hughes), being kidnapped, and Gio in the mix of his own family drama, there are going to be challenges ahead for the couple. Stay tuned to see how their love prevails!
