If you ever want to know if the head writers of your favorite soap operas can relate to what their viewers are going through, in some respects they can, especially when it’s for a beloved actor and legacy character such as it is for General Hospital’s late Tristan Rogers.
Since 1980 when he burst on to the scene as super spy Robert Scorpio, until as recent as this past July on-air, Tristan became an iconic fan favorite. While GH head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten have revealed their plans to honor Leslie Charleson and her Port Charles alter-ego, Monica Quartermaine, they also shared with TV Insider they will be planning something grand for Rogers, as well.
Korte and Van Etten shared, “We’re heartbroken by Tristan’s passing. He created the consummate General Hospital hero; Robert Scorpio was swashbuckling and sensitive, smoldering and vulnerable.”
Tristan was able to make one last return to the show he loved in episodes that aired back on July 17 and 18. It was just under a month later that he passed away from his battle with lung cancer at the age of 79 on August 15.
In story, Scorpio got to spend time with and keep his newly-found daughter, Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) safe, as well as his unborn grandchild, who left Port Charles after they were being targeted (by Willow). Jason (Steve Burton) brought Sasha to safety across the ocean and into the home and arms of her father, marking the final GH appearances of Rogers.
The head scribes noted that they feel, “fortunate that he (Tristan) was able to make one last return, and that his scenes centered on expanding his Scorpio family.”

GH fans should be on the lookout down the line for a Robert Scorpio-focused tribute episode. Elizabeth and Chris noted, “He is sorely missed, and we aim to pay tribute to Tristan and Robert the same way that we did for Leslie and Monica.” Viewers will see later this month just how the death of Monica Quartermaine was handled and how it will impact the canvas.
So, glad to hear that General Hospital is planning to pay tribute on-screen to Tristan Rogers and the character he played, Robert Scorpio? How would you like to see him honored? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
