In less than a month, one of the most-watched Canadian romantic dramas returns to U.S. screens for a fourth run after keeping fans eagerly anticipating for about a year now. Based on Robyn Carr‘s popular novel series, Sullivan’s Crossing last aired on Canada’s CTV on June 22, 2025, with that unexpected Season 3 finale that saw a character from Maggie’s past surface with claims to be her husband, while her father, Sully, left for Ireland with his girlfriend Helen, as she attempts to adapt her novel for television.

Although most of the show’s regulars have been confirmed to return in Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4, including Morgan Kohan and Chad Michael Murray, it has been reported that Scott Patterson won’t be back. Showrunner and executive producer Roma Roth recently revealed the news via The CW, explaining that Season 3 ended with his character, Sully, beginning a new chapter in his life in Ireland, while Season 4 picks up the next day, with Sully still overseas.
The Gilmore Girls alum, on the other hand, has opened up about his shocking exit, hinting at major offscreen issues. In a lengthy candid statement on Instagram, he emphasized his love for his Sullivan’s Crossing character, whom he has “nothing but fondness for.” He then revealed why he had to leave, noting that “the creative differences were becoming untenable, and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue.”

The TV star has worked on the show since its inception, and his character, Sully, has been the owner of the titular campground, Sullivan’s Crossing, located in Timberlake, Nova Scotia. Speaking further about his departure, he added:

“I was not intending to make any statement, but the fans of the books and the show deserve to know the truth, as I have always been respectful of those who support this industry by watching and loving these characters we are so dang lucky and blessed to portray and bring to life.”
